About this Company

Since our formation as Card Geotechnics Ltd in 1994, CGL has set new standards for our industry, providing sound engineering-based advice and pragmatic solutions for ground related problems.

CGL is the UK’s largest independent specialist geotechnical and geoenvironmental consultancy with a reputation for solving difficult technical problems and value engineering construction projects. We work on projects nationwide from a network of offices in Godalming (Surrey), Exeter, Harrogate and London.

The company has grown significantly since 2010. Currently 68 people work for us and we plan to grow this to 100 people in 2020. Consequently, we are able to offer opportunities at all levels within an environment that develops our staff and encourages them to progress their careers.

CGL is recognised as an extremely attractive place to work:
Winner of the Consulting Firm of the Year in 2016 by Ground Engineering Magazine, whose judges described CGL as “great ambassadors for the profession”.

Investors in People Gold Standard. Only 3% of employers achieve the Gold standard, we have held it since 2014.

Recognised as Outstanding by Sunday Times Best Companies in 2016
CGL is all about people and every staff member contributed to win these awards and recognition. We value our staff, supporting their career aspirations and their commitment to be the best in the business.

An exceptional record for diversity and inclusion. 44% of CGL’s staff are female, compared with the UK average of around 10% for the construction and engineering sectors.

Serious professional and personal development schemes. CGL offers professional technical training programmes with routes to chartership with the Geological Society, the Institution of Civil Engineers and Society for the Environment. After chartership,
CGL offers you a structured management development programme using CGL’s strong links with the Chartered Management Institute.
